Welcome to the projects page. These are all the ideas I've had that were good enough to keep. The list will mostly consist of things I'd like to see happen, and if you would like to see them happen too and are willing to help, then thats great too. So, here's what I'm currently working on.
The Mumbai Carpool Project
Google maps and MySQL join hands to provide Mumbai with its most advanced carpooling system. Take a test drive at the project home page.

The Weather Map Project
This is the second year of the Weathermap Project. Basically, I was disgusted with the amount of data that the Indian Meterological Department shared with us, the proletariat, so I decided to redress the imbalance a little bit. According to a UN Convention, all weather data must be free to everyone. That's a start! A little bit more searching and I found Digital Atmosphere, a superb weather software. Put it to work and it automatically downloads and analyses data, generates maps and uploads them to a web server. Voila! Weathermaps. I don't expect to achieve anything from this except perhaps show people how hoplessly antiquated and basically bullshit the IMD is. With a little bit of reading on weather patterns, you too will be able to read the maps and say whether it's going to rain or not! Weather data is updated every 6 hours, so one should get about 4 maps every day. Unfortunately, in order to do this, I have to leave my computer on and online all the time, which the power situation in Poona does not allow. If anyone can contribute an always-online machine to the project, we can then map the whole of the monsoon without missing a single update. I'm contributing the web hosting as well as $80 for the weather software. Please help if you can.

Pune Photo Archive
This is an attempt to get as many historical pictures of Pune together as possible.
The other day I accidently found some old photo albums. One of them was an album full of photos taken by my grandfather of the house where we live on Prabhat Road and it was very cool to see how the street looked way back in the 50's. And I'm sure people all over Pune have their own pictures of their own neighbourhoods down the ages. I figured it would be super cool to make an archive of these pictures. This will serve two purposes. One is to preserve the photos for posterity. I know my grandad's photos are in pretty bad shape and need to be scanned fast. Secondly, it'll make a very eloquent portrait of Pune on the web, a historical document of the city's changing face.
