Those old photo albums taking up space in some long forgotten drawer are actually a historical treasure trove. Even though those pictures were probably not taken with a sense of history in mind, they are probably some of the most valuable visual documents of Pune through the ages. This is an attempt to collate, date and organise them. Those with a sense of history hopefully will not ask what purpose this will serve. Those without will probably not be reading this anyway.
How to contribute
Send me an email (patang at patang dot org) and I'll give you a login so you can upload your pictures to the server.
Also, if you need help converting them into digital form, I'd be glad to help with that as well.
Submission Guidelines
Please only contribute pictures of Pune streets and landmarks which have some historical value, i.e. they show something different from what exists presently (2005). Even though they might be precious to you, indoor snaps of aunts, nephews, etc. might not be interesting to people looking for pictures of Pune, so we respectfully ask you not to upload such pictures. A small description of why the picture is interesting would be most helpful. If you have a picture of the same spot in the present day, that would be invaluable for purposes of seeing how much change has been wrought by the passing of time, the corruption of our leaders and the general decay the city seems to be facing.
Please do not submit photos that are already copyrighted.
